ELSA - Emotional Literacy Support Assistant

An ELSA in a school is an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant. This is a recognised ELSA training course aimed specifically at Teaching Assistants in schools.

Queen Eleanor’s are very lucky to have an ELSA in school. Our school ELSA, Mrs Millner, can offer 1:1 or small group sessions with children. Examples of areas that could be covered in these sessions are social skills, emotions, bereavement, social stories and therapeutic stories, anger management, self-esteem and friendships.

The school will always seek permission from families before any pupil takes part in ELSA.

Read 2 Dogs - Pets as Therapy

The Read2Dogs scheme is designed to help improve literacy skills and well-being in children by developing their confidence, interest and enjoyment in reading. Queen Eleanor’s are very lucky to have Ralph the Dog visit us every Friday to read with children across the school. The children who take part always love seeing and reading to Ralph and his owner Mrs Johnson.

To find out more about the Read 2 Dogs scheme please see Charity’s website – https://petsastherapy.org/

The school will always seek permission from families before any pupil takes part in the Read2Dog Scheme.

Surrey Young Carers

If you are a young person, and you help care for someone who has an illness, a disability, or is affected by mental ill-health or alcohol/substance misuse, Surrey Young Carers can help. They support children from Year 1 upwards and can work with Queen Eleanor's to help provide support. Any information shared is treated with confidence.

More information can be found here: Surrey Young Carers

Queen Eleanor holds a regular 'Choc and Chat' Group for our young carers. This is a chance for them to meet together and have a chat with school staff and each other. The group is lead by our school's ELSA - Mrs Milner.
