Every year QE takes part in the Guildford Cathedral Christmas Art Exhibition. This year, each class will be producing their own sculpture to represent the theme: ‘Light in the Darkness’.
The actual creation of the artwork will begin on Thursday 14th November, however we would like to invite all of our children to think of ideas for the work and to start to bringing in possible materials.
The theme is ‘Light in the Darkness’.
‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.’ John 1:5
The children may wish to express their spirituality by creating an artwork to illustrate this Bible verse, or they may think more along the lines of God giving light to the world. They might have Jesus bringing light to the world, or perhaps light being brought to the world by others. Another idea might be to think about the light that QE brings to our community. In a more traditional interpretation, the children might choose to create the figures that visited Jesus (light of the world) in the stable. Another way of looking at the theme could be to show that even in the darkest of times, God brings light.
Practicalities:
At QE, we create art work which reflects our eco school ethos, so the sculptures should embody the 3 Rs : Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Other specifications to consider:
· The sculpture needs to have a solid base, so that it can be free standing. It also needs to be robust enough to move around, without bits dropping off!
· The sculpture should be 50-150cm tall
· Tape tends to dry out with the underfloor heating. Perhaps PVA glue would be better, or stapling.
· Actual lights cannot be used in the work!
